Accessible Magick

Accessible Magick is exactly what it sounds like and I have built an entire paradigm around it.

Modern witchcraft is riddled with gatekeeping. There are the grotesquely long spell item lists, the exceptionally expensive albeit aesthetically pleasing occult stores, and as always people who claim that their way is the ONLY WAY (of whom I have many an unpopular opinion). Accessible Magick brings the power of creation back into the practitioner’s hands. It demands the acknowledgment that all the sundry tools we use are magickal because the user made them so, or perhaps because all things are interconnected. Whatever floats your boat: that’s the whole point. To me this means getting back to basics- not minimalism, but rather your truthiest truth, your power, your inherent magick.

Accessible Magick means breaking rules and rewriting your own. Call it Spiritual Anarchy.

Accessible Magick means using what you have, which might only be your being, and that’s ok. Call it Esoteric Anti-Capitalism.

Accessible Magick means a restoration of personal power, agency, and autonomy despite the onslaught of bullshit social constructs. Call it decolonizing, patriarchy smashing, queer, radical, intersectional empowerment.

Call it whatever you want.

Accessible Magick unites us back to truth and intuition through growing trust in self.

It is my belief that at birth we are closest to our highest, purest self. As we grow, experience life, endure the world and the weight of society leaves us adjacent but not aligned to our authentic selves, our intuition, our ancient wisdom and genetic memory, and our longstanding connections to the earth.  Our entire lives, we are taught to distrust. We are taught to not question, to not seek. Especially not of the self.

The answers you seek are inside you, and making your magick accessible unlocks all those beautiful things along the way. So many leaders in the broader spiritual community have amazing quotes that talk about remembering. Remember who you are. Remember the ancient ways. Remember the witch inside. Remember, Simba (cue James Earl Jones).

Remember. Discern. Believe. Show up.

For yourself, your community, your intentions, your values.

The road back to self is fraught, but each step is a valuable one. The most requested advice and the single answer I repeatedly give clients is TRUST. It’s easy to say and very hard to do. But trust is a cornerstone in any magickal practice, but especially one that focuses on personal autonomy.

Any time fear, shame, guilt, anxiety rears up, listen to it. Try and hear what it is saying objectively. Know that it is a reaction and that there is an authentic action waiting underneath it. This is hard, so hard, to do. But with baby steps you will come to learn how to do the opposite and trust in  your true internal voice.  In intuition.

Keep a notebook. Write down your dreams, inspirations, hunches. Write it all down. You will find that you’re keen to discredit what’s worthy of being written down...that’s the thing we’re fighting. Write it all down. Every tiny synchronicity. Every small coincidence. There really is no such thing and you will come to see patterns that equate to your spiritual guidance system at work, intuition included.

With trust added to remembrance, discernment, belief, and showing up it’s time to take back your magick. Whatever your path may be, there are ways to make it yours. Whatever your spell’s intention may be, there is a way to make it accessible. I’ve never met an intention I couldn’t craft a spell around.

As always, check your intentions.

Only use what’s around you.

Use nothing but you, your will, your energy, your body, your imagination.

It really is radically simple.

If you deem a plastic bottle to be your sacred vessel for water and use the bottle in a revered way, then so too shall it be. If you put energy and intention into the tip of your pointer finger being a vehicle for energy and you show up to put energy to that intention, then you’ve got yourself a wand.

The point of all this is to reclaim and fully own yourself as a magickal being.

All beings are magickal and as such magick should be accessible to all beings.
